Running toilets
A quiet trickle into the pan costs more on the water bill than anyone expects. Usually it's the fill valve or the flush mechanism.
Dripping taps
Basin, sink or shower. Sometimes a new cartridge does it, sometimes a new tap makes more sense — we'll tell you which applies to yours.
Old hoses and valves
Feeds to washing machines and dishwashers have a service life. Replacing them beats dealing with what a burst hose does.
Damp walls and ceilings
Water travels several metres from where it escapes. Before anything gets opened up, we find out where it's actually leaking.
Meter running with taps off
The classic sign of a hidden leak in the pipework. We survey the run and find where it's going.
Poor water pressure
A clogged aerator, a blocked filter, or furred-up pipe. The first two take minutes, the third means replacing a section — we can tell on site.
Leak detection
We look for the leak,
not for a hole to make
On a hidden leak the expensive part usually isn't the repair — it's the demolition and putting everything back. So we look first and open up second.
- Acoustic listening — water escaping from a pressurised pipe makes a sound a sensitive microphone picks up through concrete and tile.
- Thermal imaging — on hot water and underfloor heating the leak shows up as a heat trail.
- Moisture readings — show how far the water has spread through the wall and tell a fresh leak from old damp.
- Pressure test — confirms the pipework holds once the repair is done.
It doesn't always work without opening anything — sometimes a small inspection hole is needed. But we always ring you before we start on anything.

How soon do you get to it?
We work by appointment, so we'll agree a date based on what's free and what suits you. You'll hear a realistic date on the phone — and if we're booked up for a while, we'll say so, rather than keep you waiting.
Is a small repair even worth doing?
With a running toilet, almost always — the wasted water shows up clearly on the bill and the fix is often a single part. With a dripping tap it depends on its age: sometimes a cartridge is enough, sometimes replacing it outright makes more sense. We'll say on site what's worth doing, even if it means a smaller job for us.
What if the leak isn't found?
It's rare, but it happens — for instance when the damp isn't coming from the pipework at all, but from outside or from condensation. Even that is useful to know: it saves you demolishing the wrong place. We'll tell you whose job it is instead.
